Fire Emblem
Fire Emblem is another great game released by Nintendo in 2004. Despite appearences, it is actually the seventh game in the series, titled Rekka no Ken in its native Japan. The story follows three lords, Eliwood, Hector and Lyndis, who gradually raise an army against the Black Fang who are up to something concering The Scouring one thousand years ago - they eventually discover that the leader, Nergal, is trying to bring back dragons to rend the world asunder, so the three continue onwards to stop him. This game is a turn based strategy game, where your units are your army; what makes it so different is the in depth storyline, amount of characters, and the fact that if a character dies, they are gone for good.
Leila
Everything below contains spoilers. Please be wary! Leila is a character you never get to play as, as she is an NPC, despite it seeming at first that she will join. However, despite the NPC status, she is very important and influential to some plots mid-game and also to Matthew and Hector's resolve to stop Nergal. Firstly, Leila saves Lyn's grandfather from being killed, and supplies valuable information to Hector regarding the Black Fang, as she serves as a spy for Ostia. She knows Matthew from a long time ago, and in their conversation together they toy with one another before he says he'll take her to meet his parents after their missions are over; they are very close. However, when the lords arrive on the Dread Isle, Leila has unfortunately been caught out by Ephidel and sentenced to death at the hands of the Angel of Death, Jaffar, and is left out to greet them as a warning. Matthew, whilst in a state of shock, does the last thing he can do for her; bury her, and Hector becomes all the more determined to defeat Nergal for what he has done.
Why
Leila is my favourite character, or one of them. I just wish you could play as her! How many npc's on the good guys team do you see on the important stuff? Anyway, when we first met her, I really wanted her as part of the team. When she was killed instead, I was in a state of shock and surprise. I think it hit me harder than Eliwood's attack against the ice dragon, or at least it always has in subsequent playthroughs. It always shocks me when Leila goes. And from what we see of her personality, I love her from that. And I love her 'will they, won't they?' relationship with Matthew. She has so much potential and spirit that it's a great loss, even though she's only been around for a while, when she's lost to Jaffar's attack.
Wishing
The name, Wishing, was a spur of the moment one, and mostly relates to Leila's not-quite fiancée and best friend, Matthew. When Matthew and his lords arrive on the Dread Isle, Matthew sees her dead. After that, he leaves, to bury her; even though he wishes she were alive, even though he wishes that he could tell her the one thing that he didn't get to say - he says he basically 'screwed up'. And he resolves to mourn her when the war is over. So, yes... wishing relates well.
